Halloween. For most people it is just a night for fun, a bit of mischief and a time for children to go trick or treating. It's not like that for me though. Halloween is quite literally a time of horrors. When I was younger my mum used to make a little bit of pasta for tea before I went trick or treating. Me and mum used to go all around the streets for sweets. It was amazing . But one night me , my mum and our little pumpkin baskets decided for a change, that we would go to a big black house covered in lizards. In fact it wasn't a house it was a mansion. I was surprised that anyone could afford it. I used the huge lion head metal knocker to knock on the door. No body answered. I knocked again. A gruff deep voice answered “all right, all right I'll hurry up.” He opened it and there he was. An old man with a big beard, a big belly and a very big grin. I said “trick or treat” and his smile grew even bigger. Instead of giving us sweets he gave us something wrapped up in a bag and a box. He told us to go home unwrap the thing he had given us then do what it says on the ticket.

Later on when we returned home we had almost forgotten about the package from the old man. Almost. We ate a lot of our sweets and then we got to those dreaded packages, those evil things. I wish that me and mum had just thrown them away. It took us a while but we eventually got through that packaging and what was there was a back stage pass that had the word ticket hand written all over the front of it. We looked on the back of it, and it said to go back to the old black house knock, give in the ticket and say two words and those words still haunt me to this day. I just can't believe that we paid attention to what it said and did what it said. Unfortunately we were too intrigued. A bad habit that, being easily intrigued.

It was a cold brisk walk there, but eventually we got to the big black house. We knocked on the door with that lion head door knocker that seems even scarier now that I think about it. The old man opened the door and laughed when he saw us. Then he said “I cannot believe that you paid attention to the tickets.” I gulped and then said “we were intrigued.” Being intrigued can get you into so much trouble as I was about to find out. This next bit of the story is not very nice. The man's face suddenly grew very stern. My mum said “what's wrong?” he asked to hear the words, so we said them together ”happy Halloween!” he smiled, a stiff smile and then suddenly fell down face first with a knife in his back. A puddle of blood growing around him. A gunshot rang out from somewhere as if to warn us to get away. Then we ran. How we ran. It is amazing how fast you can run when you are scared.

Never forget what being easily intrigued can do to you. Happy Halloween... not that it will be ever again for me and mum.
